I Am Sick

I am back in Pittsburgh, exactly where I want to be.

However, I am sad here alone without my two Ts. I miss them both so much and being alone in my apartment makes me wish for their company even more. It is nice though, to have time alone, relaxing with no obligations, in my own house. With Una.

Too bad I'm sick though. It's amazing when you get sick and realize how much disgusting stuff your body can produce. I am so full of mucus. Little miss mucus from now on. I'm becoming the abject.

I often fear that I am sick mentally. Like right now. I feel like I continue to torture myself with some things. I have grown so much, but why are there some cycles that I can't break? I feel like shit with certain people, yet it's very hard to stop being around them. There are some good things, but only he can make me cry so easy. I wish I had the power to just cut him out of my life. But maybe it's making me stronger.
I hope so, because I sure as hell don't want to get weaker.

I Miss Your Brain

I haven't brushed my teeth
since you left,
I don't want to destroy that
last lingering kiss.
It has to last me three weeks,
maybe more.
Real months and hours
don't apply to me and you.

Back From The Dead

I'm doing it again. This time for real. Not just a measly 7 posts either.

So, I'm at home in ct for christmas, and I'm bored and lonely. I miss my friends and my love, more than I thought I would. It's nice to see my momma and some of my friends here, but it's hard because we all know that this isn't my home anymore. I feel pretty weird staying in my mom's house, like I'm an intruder, crashing into her and my stepdad's routine (which I definitely don't want to be a part of). Suburban middle class lifestyle is not for me, and I feel more and more out of place every time I come home, because that's all that everyone here wants. I hope that isn't too condescending.

At least Una is with me. Here is a letter I wrote her last night:
Dear Una, I like the way that your belly sounds as you are drifting to sleep. Your forehead and my hand fit together perfectly. I wish sometimes that we could sleep together all day. You are better than anyone else at warming my legs.
love, jen

Unfinished Post From 3/3/08: The Difficulties of Being a Teen Girl

The other day, after my oral exam on Martin Scorsece's movies, I went to Kiva Han to get a tea and sit alone for a bit. I wasn't feeling somber or bad for myself at all, I just had time to kill before a gallery opening and didn't feel like going home. Although, now that I think of it, I was a bit more hormonal than usual which could probably accout for my viewing the followins scene so emotionally.

I sat alone at a two person table; an awkward one in the middle of the room surrounded mostly by four person tables and groups of three huddled over papers. There were two other solitary men at lonely tables, forming a triangle with me. I made the mistake (or maybe had the good luck) of choosing my seating hastily and therefor breaking some cardinal cafe rules. I sat awkwardly facing both of these two lonely men; staring at them over the empty tabletops, they couldn't help but do the same thing back. Every motion I made got their attention, distracting them from reading or writing a paper. I recalled my highschool video teacher Eudald telling me in his heavy Spanich accent, that people only spend time in coffee shops so they can be distracted and to look at other people. As a sixteen year old girl, that statement greatly affected my self-righteous, coffee shop loving sensibilities and I will never forget it. As I thought about those words that first shook my conceptions about being cool and trying to be cool, I was distracted.
Two girls sat down kitty-cornered at one of the four person window tables, about three feet from me one had her back to me and the other was facing her and me. Upon first inspection, they were that indeterminable age range from 14 or 15 to 20; basically high school or early college. That range, which I still fit into is probably the hardest time period to be a girl. Looking at them obectively, they had developed fully into their hips and boobs, yet were still sort of limby and didn't quite seem fully comfortable in their bodies. They were also wearing clothes that, it seems are destined to remain forever popular among the alterna-girl, skater-boy-crushing, "un-popular" girls; clothes that definitely suited me in my first year of highschool, long before I realized the sheer stupidity of it all, and truly tuned out. I imediatley sympathized with these girls, I felt as though I knew them intimatley, and was not threatened by them the way I would have been by a "cool" girl my age.
These two girls had met up at Kiva Han, located between two college campus', across the street from a starbucks, and often the breeding ground for missed connections and casual first dates. Going to art high school in New Haven, my Kiva Han was the dimly lit, always bustling Koffee?. The girls were at Kiva Han for the purpose of studying for the SATs,

Unfinished Post From 2/28/08: The Cycles of the Moon and My Life

As a young woman, I have many responsibilities. Most of them i ignore, or treat irresponsibly. I wish it were different, but I'm bad at dealing with things, and I hope that, over time, I can get better. However, for now, I must just deal with (or continue to ignore) the consequences of my irresponsibilty.
So, as a woman, I also need to deal with getting my period once a month, like all other women all over the world. That connection with all other ladies does not make it any better though. So I guess I need to accept that there is always the posibility of getting pregnant. Only once in a blue moon does this possiblity actually turn into a real fear, one that can only consume your whole being and turn every though into "what if...".
This past month, I went back on birth control after taking an absence of a year and much debate, and in my haste and happiness of a condom-free life, I skimmed the guidlines for starting new bc. Bluntly, I knew I was supposed to wait at least a week before having unprotected sex, and I probably waited two days. Bad, I know. This week, the white pills came, and I was worried immediatley since I didn't get my period right away. I am also very close with my cycle and know all of my symptoms and pre-menstrual warning signs, which are usually pretty abundant. When I didn't have any of these normal symptoms, I got really upset.

My New (old) Jeans

So, I recently won a pair of vintage guess jeans from the late 80's on ebay, in an extreme stroke of luck. The jeans are very high waisted, forest green and well tapered. This is my first pair of guess' and boy, do I love them! The fit is great, especially the high waist, which I am pretty into right now, and the 90's butt effect that they give and I love. Here are a few pictures of the first outfit, which featured a tiny white tank from Ted. (I apologize for the photo-booth pics, but my digital camera just broke)

I think that the high waisted jean of the 90's is so great for women and I'd like to see a return to that style and am pushing for it in my own look.

Highly fitted high waisted jeans like my guess' really make me feel sexier in a very controlled and sophisticated way. They make me carry myself better and walk with more authority. At least they make me feel like I do, and that's a good thing. I think all the clothes that I wear should be a confidence booster, and this will be my newest goal in dressing myself!

Some Things I Made

So, for valentine's day, I ended up baking a vegan red velvet cake for me and my two favorite valentine's to enjoy.
I also made cards with my mask stencils on wallpaper with spraypaint.
Here are some:

I wrote personal messages to each of the recipients about how special they are to me on the back.

So, all in all, Valentine's Day ended up being fine, I got a bit of work done in the litho studio and also got an unexpected visit from the wizard thanks to my roommate. Nothing too profound happened, but I did stay up quite late talking to the previously mentioned two valentines, which was really nice.
Overall, I feel good about my life, my work, my friends, and my future. So that is nice.

Knitknitknitknitknit

My interest in knitting has recently re-emerged with full force. Fueled by a mask project that I am working on for a new media installation studio (which I will at some point get more into) I started doing research on fiber arts and also groundbreaking knits in fashion. Here are some of the wonderful things that I found:

Some late 90's knitwear by Yohji Yamamoto. I love the asymmetrical sweaters and all the loose layers of knit with one fitted piece over them.

Weird gloves and a four-way sweater by Freddie Robbins.

"Blonde, brunette, and red-head" hair dresses by Emily Bates.

Great works by Ed Rossbach.

So after looking at these pieces as well as some other images, I feel pretty inspired to work on my own project and look at knitting from a different perspective, which is exciting!

Tomorrow is V-day

Tomorrow is February 14, 2008, which is the day that we Americans will celebrate (or curse) St. Valentine's Day.
I don't know very much about Valentine's Day, and have never celebrated it or really cared about it. However, for some reason I am kind of curious about it this year, so I did a little research, which of course means I wikipedia'ed it.
Some facts that interested me:
-There are numerous Christian martyrs namd Valentine that the day is honering.
-Chaucer basically started the whole thing in one of his stories with a misinterpretted reference to one of the Saints Valentine and some mating birds.
-The first Valentine in America was created by Esther Howland in 1847, after she got one from a Brit.
-Valentine's day like we know it is pretty much ony celebrated in the west; the rest of the world has their own similar holidays throughout the year.

So even though I learned some stuff, I'm still not sure what I'm going to do for Valentine's day yet. I suppose that I have a valentine for myself. Although it bums me out to realize that this is now the second v-day that I will be wondering about my relationship and standing with said valentine. I'm going to make him something, and this year I will actually give it to him. I think I know for sure what one part of my val's gift is going to be, and no matter what it will be mostly a gesture of kindness and respect for him.

Love is what I'm still not sure about. Not sure whether it exists (in my situation that is) and whether it's appropriate to admit at this point or not. I hate wondering those things, but it is a part of my life, and I either ignore it and repress my questioning or deal with it. So I guess I'll just see what happens tomorrow and in the end, what will be will be. Right?!

Hello

I feel like an idiot creating my first post on my new blog, but oh well, here it is.

Let the shit-storm start.
